Computer contains various components such as Video, Sound Card, Processor, Motherboard and many types of other hardware and software. CPU (central Processing Unit) is the brain of computer and sometime it is simply referred as central processor or processor. It is the CPU where most of the calculation and arithmetic operation takes place. It requires more than one circuit board and housed in a single chip called microprocessor. Currently the kind of CPU, which are coming into the market are small and square shape, it contains multiple metallic connector or pins on its underside. These modern CPU also has an attached heat sink and small fan to dissipate heat. The two typical components of CPU are ALU and CU.
ALU - The acronym ALU stands for arithmetic logic unit and it performs arithmetic and logical operations.
CU - The acronym CU stands for control unit. Control unit extracts instruction from memory, and later it decodes and executes them.
Clock Rate of CPU
CPU (Central Processing Unit) also called as processor or microprocessor, is an electronic circuit which executes computer program. Microprocessor of modern era appears in everything ranging from mobile phone to automobiles. The main characteristic of CPU is its clock rate, which is mainly concerned with performance. Clock rate is the fundamental rate in cycles per second and it is measured in hertz, kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz, for frequency of clock in any synchronous circuit. It is very crucial to note that clock rate should not be used while comparing different computer or different processor families. Steps CPU Use in Operation
CPU carries out the instructions of computer programs. The four steps which all CPU generally use in their operations are fetch, code, execute and writeback. Here fetch involves retrieving of instructions. In decode part the instructions are broken into smaller parts, which is important and required by other parts of CPU. In the section of "execute" various parts of CPU are interconnected, so that they can successfully perform the desired operation. Now comes the final step, which is the "writeback" step; this step simply display the result of execution step.
Speed of Computer
The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a microchip and it is very often called as brain of computer. Its main job is to interpret the instruction as assigned by hardware or software, so that hardware and software can communicate with each other. The speed of the computer depends on the speed of CPU, if speed of CPU is faster, then speed of computer is also faster and vice versa.
Overheating of CPU
The user face great discomfort when CPU gets overheated, it generally occurs by the malfunctioning of system or blockage in fans. This results into the overheating of processors. In computer many components are provided with their individual fans, like processor and video card with their own fans and in some cases CPU can also be equipped with an extra fan.
Remedial Measures
It is due to dust or some other foreign particle the fans gets blocked, and stops working. This blockage is the main cause of overheating of the system. In order to avoid such discomfort, the user must open the computer case and clean the fan occasionally. The use of special vacuum and soft brush can prove incredibly useful. Over clocking the cause of overheating
Over clocking is also the cause of overheating of the system. Over clocking is generally used to increase the speed and performance of the machine but if the system is not supported by suitable high performance hardware along with proper cooling system, then it will lead to further overheating. Here the immediate measure the user can take is by opening the computer case, but make sure that it is the temporary solution and not the permanent solution. This is because, if the computer remain open for longer duration then the dust or other substance will start accumulating into the CPU and other parts of computer hardware, which can damage the system upto greater extent.
