Paint Sealant Overview
General Overview
A paint sealant is primarily supposed to protect one's vehicle properly from damaging enviromental impacts. They are engineered to bind together with the paint so that they provide protection for a period between 3 and 12 months, a period significantly longer than the length of the period of paint protection offered by a carnauba wax. This protection barrier provided by sealants assists in minimizing contamination from bonding to the factory paint thus makes maintenance of one's vehicle simpler. Another advantage brought about by the sealant is that it enhances the look of the paint on your car as it provides sharper reflections, more gloss and depth. They can be used together with a carnauba wax in order to capitalize on the best of both with regards to durability and looks.
Curing and layering
There are sealants that benefit out of applying several coats on top of the factory paint. Sealants that have no cleaners within them will typically layer onto each other. It is very important that when someone intends to apply more than one coat, they should let the coats cure fully and bond with the paint or the coat laid previously. The time it takes to bond for a lot of sealants is about 24 hours which means you need to lay and remove the first coat then wait for at least 24 hours, then lay the next coat. The circle continues until all the coats have been laid.
Step 1: Dispense approximately 2 drops the size of a pea in the middle of the foam hand applicator pad.
Step 2: mark the area on which you want to work; because you are supposed to spread it to its farthest achievable distance, the working area could be large to the size of a panel.
Step 3: Gently and carefully spread it evenly and as thinly as possible within your area of work.
Step 4: Using very little pressure as can be achieved, let the sealant embed with the paint through use of overlapping motions.
Step 5: Use a clean towel preferably made of microfiber to remove the sealant that has been worked in from the factory paint.
Step 6: Redo the steps from 1 to 5 until the whole vehicle has already been applied with sealant and removed.
The protection the sealant will provide is also worthwhile and many users will consider this a worthy investment.
