Motor Trend Car Of The Year For 2010
When you consider the history of the auto industry over the course of the last year, it might come as a bit of a shock to most people that Motor Trend would even bother to select a car of the year for 2010. With huge losses rampant throughout the car industry, Chrysler and GM going bankrupt, and the entire industry in disarray, the really amazing thing about the last year is that automakers managed to maintain enough focus to actually produce a car worthy of the title Motor Trend Car of the Year. 2010s winner comes from the only one of the Big Three American auto manufacturers to avoid the massive government intervention that characterized the car industry in 2009 thats right, the runaway winner of the title Motor Trend Car of the Year is the 2010 Ford Fusion.
Of course, there were bound to be great cars produced even in the midst of economic upheaval. After all, the industrys design and manufacture process generally takes three years from the initial car design until the final rollout of the vehicle. Still, given the depths to which the worlds auto industry had apparently sunk in 2009, it is only fair to excuse car enthusiasts who may have been surprised when Motor Trend finally announced a Car of the Year. That the 2010 Motor Trend Car of the Year should be the Ford Fusion, however, should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched the development of this model since its debut in 2006.
Its always a pleasure when any winner of the Motor Trend Car of the Year award has an interesting history and the Ford Fusion has seen its share of adversity. In fact, it has been a short but tumultuous history, as the model has been almost completely redesigned from its 2009 makeup. In much the same way that teams in the NFL sometime go from mediocrity to championship material in a single season, this years Motor Trend Car of the Year winner is light years ahead of its 2009 ancestor.
The 2010 Ford Fusion earned the Motor Trend Car of the Year award by begin both economical and exciting. After a year that saw such drab and boredom-inspiring ideas as Cash for Clunkers, the Ford Fusions high-tech take on the New Year has shed some much needed light on an auto industry that has wallowed in the darkness during the Great Recession. It is sporty and chic with its AWD, its hybrid capabilities, and its abundance of informational and technological options. Its not only the Motor Trend Car of the Year - for many buyers, it will be the Car of their Dreams!
If youve experienced a previous version of the Fusion, the 2010 model is going to feel like an entirely different car altogether. Few elements of the old Fusion survived the redesign, as Motor Trends Car of the Year has aggressively carved out its own place in the New Years lineup of exciting car models. In a year that saw brand after brand discontinued and Asian car makers accounting for nearly half of the Motor Trend Car of the Year finalist spots eleven models to Europes seven and the United States five the Fusion was clearly the best of the bunch and deserving of the Motor Trend Car of the Year accolade.
